Holy moly, here we go folks! This was an incredible set of armies that I ran across this year at NASHCON. There was an entry in this year’s convention program that read like this:

“TABLE 4 – A Game of Thrones

Come select one of the great houses of Westeros and deploy your army to contend for the Iron Throne. Up to 6 players will compete in a series of Big Battle DBA/HOTT 3.0 battles with ever changing teams and alliances until one player emerges as the High King. The game, played using 25mm figures, will be hosted by Tom Thomas. Armies for the Lannisters, Baratheons, Starks, Greyjoys, The Night Watch, and Wildlings will be provided. Players may also choose to bring their own Westeros Song of Ice and Fire based armies. Armies will be assembled using the Hordes of the Things points system with each army fielding 24 points worth of troops.”

When I read that, I wanted to see what was going on there. I didn’t get to play, but I grabbed some photos of your favorite characters.

Here is what Tom said about his armies and the figures he used:

The figures both for rank and file and characters are drawn from a variety of manufactures but the primary source for each army is listed below:

Night Watch
The first army I did and its primarily built from the current line of Games Workshop Bretonians.

Jon Snow is a converted  plastic knight with an old Grenadier wolf.  Lord Mormont is a metal Bretonian Duke.

Cold Hands is based on a Games Workshop dark elf riding a Primeval prehistoric elk.  The ravens come from Splintered Light.

Wildlings
These are a “wild” combination of various dark age figures with cloaks added from the bit box (primarily Games Workshop extras).  The woolly mammoths come from a natural history museum gift shop.  The giants are from the board game Descent.  Animals are from various sources primarly Primeval.

The Starks
The Stark knights are mostly Essex with a few Fireforge recently added.  Cloaks are Games Workshop discards.  The foot are mostly older Bretonians (not the current line) with some additional Front Rank and Perry Brothers Hundred Years War figures added in.  Decals and banners come from Space Wolves.

Robb Stark is a Front Rank knight with a Primeval dire wolf added to the base.  Cateyln Stark is Margaret of Anjou from the Perry Brother’s War of the Roses line.

Lannisters
Most of the Lannister pike are Perry Brothers plastics from the mercenary box.  Many of the men at arms and crossbowmen are Zvelda humans from their fantasy game.  Tywin Lannister is a conversion based on a Games Workshop Empire knight but riding Bretonian warhorse (from the “Joan of Arc” character – Repanse whose body was used to make Briene of Tarth).  Both versions of Jamie Lannister (with a and without hand) are Knight Errants from Games Workshop.  Most of the other knights and archers are also Games Workshop.

Baratheon
Stannis is another Games Workshop conversion as is the fiery stag banner.  His archers and halberd men are Perry Brothers plastics from the War of the Rose box.  Melisandre is a Bretonian sorceress.

Greyjoys
Asha is a converted Perry Brother plastic archer.  Most of her loyal band are Fire Forge plastic foot.  The archers and blade men are Dark Age and Fire Forge plastics.  The drowned men are Dark Age conversions with cloaks added.

The Allies
The Freys are mostly Old Glory Hundred Years War figures.  The Tullys are mostly Perry Brother War of the Roses plastics with mounted troops from their metal line.  The Boltons are mostly Fire Forge for foot and Perry Brother War of the Rose plastics for mounted.  Roose Bolton is Somerset from the Perry Brothers metal War of the Roses line.
