Jeff McArthur at Command Combat: Civil War makes a fantastic product that works great with our terrain mats. You can play Command Combat with miniatures, but Jeff also has PDF  images of miniature units available that can be printed out and mounted on card-stock. These units work great with our mats and you can play some ACW battles quickly without miniatures! This is a great option for travelling light (and setting up quickly) to the local gaming club, convention or FLGS. It also makes a great introduction to miniature wargaming for boardgamers who are accustomed to 2D terrain and images.

The terrain mat pictured is our “Battle of Piedmont – 25mm” terrain mat. This mat was designed by Dean West and Todd Davis and is an officially licensed Osprey Publishing “Across A Deadly Field” mat. Of course, it works great with other ACW rules too, like Command Combat!

Rebel guns and limbers deploy on a wooded hill. Infantry is in support behind a rail fence on the right flank.

We especially recommend this system for use with our officially licensed  Osprey “Across A Deadly Field” terrain mats, since they have all the terrain, fences and buildings printed on them. All you need to do is print your units, set them on the table, and play the game! Quick and easy! Jeff also has some free starter sample packs available to get you started!

I just printed my units on paper, but I plan on mounting them on card stock soon! Some CSA guns deploy on a hill near a stream.

A picture of some of the Command Combat units on a Cigar Box Battle “Piedmont – 25mm” terrain mat. A great gaming combination!
