“Put the boys in!”

The 15mm version of the New Market mat (#143).

Today we are featuring one of our newest terrain mats, the classic American Civil War battle of New Market. This mat was designed for the “Across A Deadly Field” rules by John Hill and published by Osprey Publishing. It is included in the recently released “ADF – The War in the East” scenario book. The scenario was designed by Dean West and the artwork by Dean and Todd Davis.

We offer a “15mm” version of the mat (#143) which is a 3ft x 4.5ft scenario mat printed in the center of a 4ft x 6ft mat. The ground scale is 1 inch = 80 to 100 yards. It’s perfect for 10mm –  15mm ADF, and other small-scale, tactical ACW rules, or 6mm games. The “25mm” version (#143B)  is scaled to 1 inch = 60-80 yards. It would work suitably well for 15mm tactical games like  “Johnny Reb” and “Regimental Fire & Fury”, and 25mm “Across A Deadly Field”.

As with all of the officially licensed Osprey signature series mats, these mats come ready to play with all terrain printed on them (trees, streams, fences, houses, etc).

Here are some iPhone pictures of the New Market mat (#143B) –

The New Market battlefield. The terrain levels are indicated on the mat and we add some foam hills under the mat to create rolling 3D hills.

Another shot of the battlefield looking north from the town of New Market towards Smith’s Creek and Sigel’s Hill. This will look fantastic when covered with 3D buildings, fences and trees!

The same 15mm unit with some 3D terrain added. Quick, easy and it looks great!

Obviously this is the perfect mat for setting up a quick and great looking scenario for New Market. If you haven’t picked up the new ” ADF War in the East” scenario book, it comes highly recommended, regardless of which rules you play! We feel adding this mat to your collection will bring a lot of “New Market” replay value to your gaming group, but the mat can also be used for “generic” ACW battles (fought from South to North, or West to East, etc), and is highly usable for periods like the American War of Independence, War of 1812, French and Indian War, etc.
